Real Talk: Why the Person in the Mirror Will Never Be a Great Player

Hello RENEGADE!

Enjoying a nice evening here in Jacksonville…

The weather has finally broken, and the heat is now only a mild smoldering here in Florida.

RST is heading into a heavy productivity quarter, where months of planning and creation on paper are now taking shape…

In other words, expanded opportunities for you to challenge yourself!

Becoming Someone More

In order for this to all happen though, each member of the RST Team must grow…

We must become someone that we aren’t today…

Because, who we are today, isn’t strong enough to reach the goals we have set…

We must grow, get stronger, learn, become more disciplined…

If I was to ask you if you wanted a million dollars, or if you wanted to be a millionaire, which would you choose?

The educated person wants to become the millionaire…

Even if that process is painful…

Even if sacrifices need to be made…

Why?

Because the millionaire knows how to create enough value, and have been disciplined enough to save, that they have acquired million dollars…

This is why lottery winners are often broke again in less than five years after becoming millionaires…

What Does This Have to Do With Me?

Go to the mirror.

Take a look.

First, be proud of all of the time you have put in with the ball.

Be proud of all the training you have done.

Be proud of how hard you compete.

But now, take a look and being honest answer:

Are you a great player?

Are you the player you dream of being?

If not, I want you to tell your self honestly…

Is that player a little stronger?

A little quicker?

What does that player think of themselves?

Is there a confidence in their step as they come onto the pitch?

Do they demand the ball in times where the team needs a lift?

Is that player more skillful?

If you were the great player, what needs to change?

Because, in order for you to become the player you dream of being….

You must become more.

90 Day Goals – Opportunity to Become More

When we talk about 90 day goals at RST, we talk about setting a target where we must grow in order to reach the goal…

We require targets…

A goal is ‘I want to be a great player’.

Well, frankly, I don’t even know what that means, because I cannot read your mind.

A target takes the components of a great player:

Speed

Strength

Fitness

Techniques

It takes those components, and applies a measurement.

Now, are there intangibles in sports?

Of course… tons of them.

But a target says:

I need to improve my fitness, therefore…

In the next 90 days, I will drop my mile time to less than 6:00 minutes.

In 90 days, I will be able to hit a rolling ball from the 18 into the upper 90 75% of the time.

In 90 days, I will increase the touches on my progress tracker by 35%.

In 90 days, I will stop drinking soda altogether.

The Person in the Mirror

That person in the mirror will literally need to become someone else to be great.

Great players don’t skip nutrition…

Don’t hit snooze if they need to go run…

Don’t miss getting 5,000+ touches a day…

Don’t skip doing homework…

Don’t sit around and watch television all day…

Don’t forget to be grateful to their parents…

If you want more from life, you must become something more…

You must change…

Trust me, the world won’t…

You must become more…

What is the meaning of life?

The meaning of life is to realize yourself…

To embrace the opportunties given to you…

To become the best student you can be…

To become the best player you can be…

To become the best daughter, or son, friend, and yes, someday become the best parent you can be…

To tell your parents how much they mean… in front of the whole world.  Unashamed.

To become your own best friend, and not your own worst enemy…

To love you…

To learn to listen to your own voice…

To declare your insights as a leader…

The meaning of life is to realize…

You.

So, will that person in the mirror ever be a great player?

Maybe.

If the person in the mirror wants to be great, they must learn to grow…

To expand…

And through this process of challenge, discipline, and growth…

That person will become something more.

And in that amazing process…

Inch by inch…

day by day…

You can become the player you dream of being…

The student you dream of being…

And yes, the family member and friend you dream of being…

So, what’s the target you are going to hit by 2018?

What will your grades be?

What new skill(s) will you have?

Will you be a little fitter?  Stronger?

Will you be a little closer to the people in your life?

Will you become someone more..?

Something to think about…

And act upon!
